Launceston Planning Scheme 1996 SCHEDULE 1 - Page 1 SCHEDULE 1 - DEFINITIONS USED IN THE PLANNING SCHEME 1.1 OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS Access Strip: a portion of a Lot which provides access between the main body of that lot and a road. Act: Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993. Allotment: see Lot. Amenity: in relation to a particular area such qualities, features, or advantages that contribute to the feeling of pleasantness, harmony and enjoyment. Ancillary: an activity subordinate to and dependent on the primary use or development. Average Wall Height: the average of the vertical heights, measured at the end points of the highest exterior wall of a building, between the eaves line of the building and the ground level. Block: a piece of land all in one piece of the same owner and not intersected by any other land. Building: includes: (a) a structure and part of a building or structure; and (b) fences, walls, out-buildings, service installations and other appurtenances of a building; and (c) a boat or pontoon which is permanently moored or fixed to land. Building Code of Australia (BCA): the code relating to the design and construction of buildings issued by the Australian Uniform Building Regulations Coordinating Council. Building Height: the vertical distance between the highest part of a building (not being a minor protrusion) to the average ground level within the building envelope. Building Line: a perscribed line across the site parallel to the front boundary which usually corresponds to the part of the front wall of the principal building closest to the front boundary. Also refer to setback. Compliance Measure: specific measure which illustrates one way of meeting the Performance Requirements and Objectives. This prescriptive approach allows a designer or builder to proceed with certainty of outcome. Council: Launceston City Council. Development: includes: Amend. 054
