Designation: D4731 − 13 (Reapproved 2020)Standard Specif i cation forHot-Application Filling Compounds for TelecommunicationsWire and Cable 1This standard is issued under the f i xed designation D4731; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (´) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specif i cation covers a variety of petroleum-basedand other compounds used for f i lling the air spaces in telecom-munications wires and cables (both electrical and f i ber optic)for the purpose of preventing water and other undesirable f l uidsfrom entering or migrating through the cable structure. (Forrelated standards see Specif i cations D4730 and D4732).1.2 A hot-application compound is a material that requiresmelting in order to be applied as a liquid and its melting pointaffects its performance in the f i nished cable product.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard. The values given in parentheses after SI units areprovided for information only and are not considered standard.1.4 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards, Guides and Recom-mendations issued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.2.
