Board Notes Lancaster Independent School District Highlights from Board Meetings Regular Meeting – November 16, 2015, 7 p.m. The Board Notes are not the official minutes of the Board Meeting. Official minutes of the Board Meeting will be posted after approval by the Board of Trustees. 1 Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 7 PM Invocation Pledge of Allegiance: Students from Pleasant Run Elementary recited the Pledges, school creed, showcased a spelling activity and performed a song. Special Recognition S. Cole-Hamilton shared the following information: ? Lancaster ISD nominated 141 students to attend the 2016 Lone Star Leadership Academy camps. ? The Google Expeditions Tour landed at G.W. Carver 6th Grade STEM Learning Center students on Friday, November 6. Approximately 500 students had the opportunity to take trips to Brazil, Nigeria, and India during the space of a single class period. ? On November 11, the Lancaster ISD Athletics Department hosted an early signing day for 3 members of the 5A State Champion Basketball Team to sign their letters of intent. Deon Barrett committed to the University of Texas at El Paso, Nate Morris signed with the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), and JaColby Pemberton will play at Louisiana Tech University. ? During the last week of October, Lancaster ISD celebrated National Red Ribbon Week and students and staff pledged to be drug free and raised awareness. ? Pleasant Run Elementary hosted its 2nd annual MR. Day, a male-led literacy event that reinforces the joy of reading, the importance of literacy and male involvement in public education. ? The winners of the Hispanic Heritage Bowl competition will participate in a summer history tour. Congratulations to the Houston All Stars from Houston Elementary: Sasha Brown, Briana Smith, Robert Hamilton, Maggan Jackson, Saul Diaz and their coaches, Brandi Barnett and Paula Daugherty; and the secondary division winners the LMS – Star 1, of Lancaster STEM Middle School - David Lucky, Jordan Adams, Aileen Campos, Brian Torres and their coach, Julian Tenorio. ? October was Fire prevention month and in partnership with the City of Lancaster Fire Department, our students learned lessons on staying safe at home, what actions to take in the event of a fire, and having a family exit plan in case of an emergency. ? In honor of Veterans Day, the district acknowledged veterans who work for Lancaster ISD. ? Lancaster ISD is preparing for its Angel Tree Project and the district is opening up the opportunity for community members to donate to this effort. ? During the week of December 7-11, Lancaster ISD will participate in the Hour of Code project. The Hour of Code is an awareness effort to showcase the field of computer science.
