After a short business meeting, there will be a program featuring the magic mode of CW! If you're an old hand at CW operation or are anxious to learn, this is the meeting for you. KARS has some outstanding CW ops on its membership roster. There will be an array of keys, paddles, keyers and software on display. Also, a brief practice session to demonstrate how easy it is to learn the Morse Code. See you there! Don’t forget the net! ***********KARSFEST JULY 17************ KARSFEST 2011 Final plans for KARSFEST 2011 will be worked out at the July meeting. This is the biggest KARS event of the year and the largest fund raising function. The proceeds from the hamfest pay the lions share of the clubs yearly expenses. We simply could not afford the repeaters and many activities without this most impor-tant event. Consequently, it is imperative that all KARS members help out in putting on this “Best in the Midwest” show! Please bear in mind that without a suc-cessful hamfest, it would be necessary to raise membership dues substantially! We need help Saturday evening setting up the tables. On Sunday, we need LOTS of help. Try to arrive by 5:45AM. If you absolutely cannot show up until later, we still need your help. See you at the July meeting and at KARSFEST 2011 !!! KARSFEST FORUM PROGRAMS Two forums are planned for KARS 28th ANNUAL HAMFEST 1. YOUTH AND AMATEUR RADIO IN THE CLASSROOM : The Story of the W9GRS Amateur Radio Station Presenter - Troy J. Simpson (W9KVR). 8th grade Earth Science teacher Troy Simpson will talk about the Amateur Radio Club station and student program at Glenn Raymond School in Watseka, IL. The school was awarded an ARRL Stations in Schools Grant in 2008. Specifically Troy will share his experiences of helping the students at Glenn Raymond School get on air and involved in various aspects of amateur radio. Topics will in-clude how the school got started in radio, the challenges of getting on air, student licensing, local Amateur Radio Club in-volvement, contesting, and the sweet suc-cess of students earning their tickets, and making that rare DX QSO! Students are earning their tickets, Troy will speak on the experience. Troy asks if you hear W9GRS, followed by a few other "9" calls, it maybe some of his students trying to pick up a new one! 2. FLEX RADIO A Flex operator’s Perspective By Ken Buser W9YNI (now W9IE) SDR fundamentals and operating the FLEX.Ken will also describe his "beefed up" Flex-5000 with a 6-Core AMD powerhouse.
