Designation: C1277 − 26Standard Specif i cation forShielded Couplings Joining Hubless Cast Iron Soil Pipe andFittings 1This standard is issued under the f i xed designation C1277; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (´) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specif i cation covers the materials and testing ofshielded hubless couplings to join hubless cast iron soil pipeand f i ttings.1.2 Several different types of hubless couplings are avail-able for use in hubless cast iron sanitary and storm drain, waste, and vent piping applications to connect hubless cast ironsoil pipe and f i ttings by using a sleeve-type, or some other typecoupling device. It is the purpose of this specif i cation to furnishinformation as to the characteristics of one such sleeve-typecouplings when applied to cast iron soil pipe and f i ttingsmanufactured in accordance with Specif i cation A888, latestrevision, and CISPI 301, latest revision.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.4 The committee with jurisdiction over this standard isaware of other comparable standard published by the Cast IronSoil Pipe Institute, CISPI 310, FM 1680 published by FactoryMutual, and Specif i cation C1540 published by ASTM.1.5 The following precautionary caveat pertains only to thetest method portion, Section 7, of this specif i cation. Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the userof this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, andenvironmental practices and determine the applicability ofregulatory limitations prior to use.1.6 This international standard was developed in accor-dance with internationally recognized principles on standard-ization established in the Decision on Principles for theDevelopment of International Standards, Guides and Recom-mendations issued by the World Trade Organization TechnicalBarriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.2.
