The midrapidity¯?+/?−ratio is estimated to be 0.45 ± 0.05 and 0.41 ± 0.18 for central Pb+Pbcollisions at 158 and 40 A·GeV, respectively. The corresponding value for 158 GeV p+pinteractions is 0.67 ± 0.62. For central Pb+Pb collisions at 158 A·GeV fully correcteddistributions are obtained. The inverse slope parameters of the mTspectrum and totalyields are T(?−) = 276 ± 23 MeV, <?−> = 0.47 ± 0.07 and T(¯?+) = 285 ± 39 MeV,<¯?+> = 0.15 ± 0.02.We report preliminary results on ?−and¯?+production in central Pb+Pb1. IntroductionA non-monotonic energy dependence of the K+/π+ratio with a sharp maximum close to30 A·GeV is observed in central Pb+Pb collisions [1, 2]. Within a statistical model ofthe early stage [3], this is interpreted as a sign of the phase transition to a QGP, whichcauses a sharp change of the energy dependence of the strangeness to entropy ratio. Thisobservation naturally motivates us to study the production of multistrange hyperons (Ξ,?) as well as the function of the beam energy. Although this is the main motivationfor our study of ? production in p+p and Pb+Pb collisions, there are two other pointsof interest. In fact, ?−and¯?+production in p+p collisions could give quite detailedinformation on the dynamics of strangeness production in those collisions. From string-hadronic models, it is expected that the¯?+/?−ratio in p+p interactions at SPS energiesis higher than 1 whereas it is predicted to be smaller than 1 in a hadron gas model [4].Furthermore it was suggested that the kinematic freeze-out of ? takes place directly athadronization [5]. If this is indeed the case, the transverse momentum spectra of the ?directly reflect the transverse expansion velocity of a hadronizing QGP [6].In this report we show preliminary results on ?−and¯?+production in central Pb+Pbcollisions at 30, 40 and 158 A·GeV and compare them to data from p+p interactions at158 GeV. We also show fully corrected rapidity and mTspectra of ?−and¯?+in centralPb+Pb collisions at 158 A·GeV.
