Research Institute ofYellow River Civilization and Sustainable Development，Henan University，Kaifeng 475001，Henan，China）Abstract: Economic geography and regional economics have similar targets and borrow concepts and theories of eachothers, which make their particularity gradually blurred. Therefore, based on the existing research, this paper analyzestheir differences from perspectives of research components, research content and philosophical thinking. From researchcomponents perspective, the research ofeconomic geography and regional economics can be divided into the unique partof economic geography (regional sustainable development), the unique part of regional economics (regionalspecialization and industrial agglomeration) and the common parts oftwo subjects (industrial location theory, agriculturallocation theory, the interaction between economic spaces). From research content perspective, economic geographystudies the relations between different geographical layers, and focuses on the relation between human economicactivities and geographical environment and the position of Human economic activities on the earth surface. Inphilosophical thinking, economic geography primarily applies induction, and emphasizes the harmony between humanand geographical environment, while regional economics gives priority to the deduction and mathematical logic, andemphasizes the optimization ofeconomic outcome.
