A ii Y N 1’EM, MU 1HU19, AN19 CUMFU’1EK PROCiRAM PRODUCT USINGADATABASEINA COMPUTING SYSTEMTO COMPILEAND COMPAREMETABOLOMIC DATA OBTAINED FROMA PLURALITYOF SAMPLESBACKGROUNDOFTHE INVENTION1. Fieldofthe Invention. The present invention relates to the field of inetabolomics, which isthe study5 of small molecules produced by an organism’s metabolic processes. Moreparticularly, the embodiments ofthe present invention are adapted to compile andcompare inetabolomic data received froma spectrometry device acrossa plurality ofsamples. Furthermore, embodiments ofthe present invention may also provide forthedisplay ofa visual indication of the presence of selected metabolites in eachofthe10 plurality of samples such that metabolomic datamay be subjectively analyzed byauser across the plurality of samples.2. Description of Related Art.Metabolomics is the study ofthe small molecules, or metabolites, contained in15 a cell, tissue or organ (including fluids) and involved in primary and intermediarymetabolism. The term “metabolorne” refers to the collection of metabolites present inan organism. The human metabolome encompasses native small molecules (nativelybiosynthesizeable, non-polymeric compounds) that are participants in generalmetabolic reactions and that are required forthe maintenance, growthand normal20 functionofa cell. Thus, metabolomics isa direct observation ofthe status of cellularphysiology, and may thusbe predictive of disease ina given organism. Subtlebiochemical changes (including the presence of selected metabolites) are inherent inagiven disease. Therefore, the accurate mapping of these changes to known pathwaysmay allow researchers to builda biochemical hypothesis fora disease. Based on this25 hypothesis, the enzymes and proteins critical to the disease can be uncovered suchthat disease targets may be identified for treatment with targeted pharmaceuticalcompounds.-1 -
