M ethods Detailed dissections and related measurementsof the presacral region were performed on 10 Chinese female cadavers (3 unembalmed and 7 embalmed cadavers) atPe-kingUnionMedicalCollegeHospital between June 2007 and January 2008· Results The vascular pattern of the presa-cral spacewas regular in 9 specimens (9/10) . Therewas one communicating vein connecting the lateral sacral vein (orthe internal iliac vein) and themiddle sacralvein on the surface ofeach sacralvertebra. These communicating vessels areperpendicular to themiddle sacral and lateral sacralveins in a stair-like fashion. The corners of a squarewith aside of3 cm, centered on the anterioraspectof the body ofsacrum, were almostall contained in the avascularareas, withthe upper side of this square parallel to a line passing through the sacralpromontory, ata 3 cm distance from it. Conclu- sion The vascular pattern of the presacral space is regular inmostof the specimens. Among the avascularareas adjacentto each of the four corners of the 3
